Course Description

English is the global language of business. National University's English Language Learning Program meets the needs of each student and is designed for non-native English speakers who want to learn English and improve their professional and workplace communication skills.

The English Language Learning: Communication for the Workplace Certificate is designed to meet students where they are at on their language learning journey. English Communication for the Workplace includes 4 career-themed courses. Students must complete 4 required courses to earn the English Language Learning Certificate: Communication for the Workplace.

Based on the Level Test language assessment score, students are placed into one of four sublevels within the first course of the certificate program. The sublevels are Emerge, Evolve, Explore, Engage. At the beginning of each course, students will complete another Level Test to assess their progress and determine their course content level. The content will align with the student's skill level while providing enough of a challenge to grow and gain confidence listening, reading, writing, and speaking English.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate confidence and competence in reading, writing, speaking, and listening across four GSE proficiency levels.

  • Expand vocabulary by maintaining and applying a vocabulary journal.
  • Strengthen listening comprehension by analyzing audio and video materials and responding to related questions.

  • Demonstrate cross-cultural awareness, teamwork strategies, and communicative confidence to collaborate effectively in diverse professional settings.

To be eligible to enroll in the English Language Learning Certificate: English for Academic Purposes learners must complete the following:


Estimated Time to Completion

The English Language Learning Certificate: Communication for the Workplace is a 12-month certificate program. Students will be working on 1 course every 3 months.


Access Time

Learners will have access to each course one at a time. Each course is 12 weeks. Total access time for the certificate is 12 months.


Certificate of Completion

Learners will be awarded a National University Workforce Education Solutions Professional and Continuing Education Certificate of Completion after completion of all 12 ELL courses as part of this certificate program.

Refund Policy

We at National University want all of our students to have a positive and rewarding learning experience. In the event that a student is not completely satisfied with a course, we offer a refund policy to ensure satisfaction.

To be eligible for a refund, the student must submit a written request, including a valid reason, within 9 calendar days of registering for the course. Additionally, the student must not have attempted more than 25% of the course.

To request a refund, email PACE@nu.edu and include your full name, student ID, and course name. Your reason for requesting a refund will be carefully reviewed, and we reserve the right to refuse a refund if we determine the request to be invalid.

If you meet the eligibility criteria and are approved for a refund, we will issue a refund to your original method of payment within 60 days of the refund approval.

 


How to Access My Course

Allow up to 1 hour after enrollment for the course to appear in Brightspace. (An error will appear if accessed before 1 hour)

Follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to your student portal at westraining.nu.edu
  2. Click “Login”, then “Student Login”
  3. Log in using User Name (email address) and Password
  4. In your PACE student portal, click on “Brightspace LMS” on the left-hand navigation panel.
  5. Under My Courses, click the course title to get started.
