This course is specifically designed for EMS workers to help them better interact and care for patients with dementia. It will also provide guidance on how to better navigate a dementia crisis as an EMS provider. The course begins by examining what an EMS response to a dementia-related call typically looks like and then dives deeper into best practices and strategies for improving the typical response. Through a deeper understanding of communication and de-escalation techniques, EMS workers will be better equipped to handle dementia crises and ensure the safety and well-being of those involved. The course will also discuss the recent paradigm shift in dementia crisis response which demonstrates the benefits of a change in the role of EMS and the importance of a team-based approach when caring for persons with dementia. This course may also be useful for professionals in other areas of care who are looking for information on dementia crisis care from the perspective of an EMS provider.
